COBURG - Monaco Coach Corp. reported Wednesday that it lost $71.8 million in the third quarter, or $2.40 per share, as it continues to struggle in the face of "extremely difficult market conditions."

Those tough market conditions grew more challenging for the RV maker in the third quarter, CEO Kay Toolson said. Poor consumer confidence and tight consumer credit hurt retail sales, prompting dealers to reduce their inventories, he said.

"To state the obvious, we are facing unprecedented times in the RV industry," Toolson told analysts in a conference call. "It's difficult to find a silver lining in times like this."
