A black custodian who worked for the city of Eugene for 12 years has filed a civil lawsuit in federal court, alleging racial discrimination and wrongful discharge.

Wendell Butler, who was fired in May 2007 as a lead custodian for the Facilities Management Department, had worked as a janitor at the Hult Center and at the Eugene library.
