The Lane County Circuit Court's presiding judge found herself dialing for jurors Wednesday morning after a shortage caused by an unusually large number of criminal trials and an unusually large number of no-shows among citizens summoned to jury duty.

"I was looking through the phone book for the jurors' phone numbers so (jury supervisor) Tana Tracewell could call them," Judge Mary Ann Bearden recounted Thursday.
