When Cindy Shackleford was interviewing for a sales job with Motorola, the regional manager from Houston flew in for her final interview.

"He explained they would be taking a chance on me because I had no sales experience," recalled Shackleford, who had taught elementary school for seven years. "I told him I had been selling reading, writing and arithmetic to people that didn't even know they needed the product."

After laughing good-naturedly at her response, he pointed out the company would still be taking a risk.
