THE owners of a Scottish adventure centre where a schoolgirl died while gorge jumping were yesterday fined ?16,000 for failing to ensure her safety.

Laura McDairmant, 15, was on a break at an Abernethy Trust Christian outdoor centre in July 2006, when the tragedy happened.

One of the activities involved leaping into a deep pool on the Grey Mare's Tail burn, near Black Loch, in the Galloway Forest Park.

But the schoolgirl, of Wetheral, Carlisle, struck protruding rocks after leaping from a cliff. She suffered severe head injuries, a broken pelvis and broken leg in the accident.
