The Tribune Co. marketing slogan for its baseball team this season is, "Play like there's no tomorrow." And, in the case of the Chicago Cubs, there apparently will be no tomorrow with Tribune.

In an announcement Monday, Tribune, which owns the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, WGN television and WGN radio, besides the Cubs, accepted a $34-a-share proposal by Chicago real-estate magnate Sam Zell to take the company private.

According to a statement by the company, Zell will invest $315 million in the project, but a corollary is that the Cubs and their stake in Comcast SportsNet/Chicago will be sold, presumably...
