In a struggle to find his own identity in the presidential race, Senator John McCain declared last week that harsh interrogation techniques 'aren't all that bad' and may have inadvertently 'made me the man I am today'.

After modifying his former position on the torture and harsh treatment of prisoners, McCain joined Republicans to defeat a bill that would have stopped the CIA from mistreating prisoners. 'Look, torture smorture', McCain said. 'I survived it to become healthy and wealthy, even if I do lack judgement. When these techniques were used on me they were illegal; but the president changed the definition of torture, so it's more like a little personal chat. Republicans support the president and so do I.'
