A HIGH-FLYING Asian policeman yesterday launched a thinly-veiled attack on militant colleagues who claim that the force is riddled with racism.

Chief Superintendent Mak Chishty - a prominent figure in the National Black Police Association - rejected claims that black and Asian officers are held back in their careers. The Muslim police chief said huge progress had been made over the past ten years to ensure that he and other ethnic minority officers were treated fairly.

Mr Chishty spoke out after the BBC's Panorama programme claimed that a substantial number of minority officers suffer racism in the workplace.
