As the parent of second graders and as a family physician who sees a large number of refugees and immigrants in my clinical practice, I have often thought about how difficult it must be to be an immigrant parent: deciphering informational notes or permission forms sent home with the students; assisting with homework assignments; scheduling and attending parent-teacher conferences; and assisting on class outings, to name just a few of the routine responsibilities.
