Piercy hasn't supported police

Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy may say she is supportive of the police, but there is no evidence to support her assertion.

One very good example is the annual awards ceremony for cops who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Piercy has not attended a single time. One would think a mayor could carve out 90 minutes in a year to commend the police for their dedication and hard work. It's just not a priority for her.

Another example is her complete lack of support for Police Chief Robert Lehner, who has been an exemplary public servant to this community. Now we stand to lose him.

Jim Torrey is absolutely right and has no reason to back down. He is speaking the truth.

Take this election seriously

The pending election is extremely important. It is not the time to treat your ballot as if you are voting for your favorite entertainer on " American Idol."

It is the duty of every voter to become educated about the candidates and the issues. It is not appropriate that people make their decisions on a 60-second campaign ad or flip remarks made by a radio or TV talk show host.

I urge all voters to visit the League of Women Voters Web site or Factcheck.org to obtain nonpartisan information about the candidates and the issues.
