Program to feature Klamath Basin wildlife refuges

The wildlife refuges of the Klamath Basin in southeast Oregon will be the subject of a slide presentation Wednesday in Eugene. Oregon Wild is sponsoring the show, set for 6:30 p.m. in the Tykeson Room of the Eugene Public Library, Tenth and Olive streets in Eugene. Every year, the Klamath Basin hosts tens of thousands of migratory birds, including snow geese, American white pelicans and bald eagles. Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The virtual tour features the photographs of Brett Cole and a talk by Oregon Wild Klamath Campaign Coordinator Ani Kame'enui. Details: 344-0675.

UO Outdoor Program launches loaner bike project

International students at the University of Oregon Outdoor Program now have the opportunity to borrow a bicycle to use for their local transportation needs. The UO Outdoor Program has launched a pilot bike loan program utilizing bicycles impounded by the UO Department of Public Safety. The bikes have been refurbished and outfitted with a basket, helmet, lock, fenders and lights. Students pay a $65 deposit to borrow the bike for one to three terms; the deposit is refunded...
