CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 2002

Whitehall Jewellers, Inc. (NYSE:JWL) today announced comparable store sales for November and December 2002 decreased 2.6%, versus a 4.7% decline for November and December 2001. Total sales for the two-month period decreased 1.5% to $111.8 million compared to $113.4 million for the same period in 2001.

Comparable store sales for the eleven-month period ended December 31, 2002, decreased 1.3%, versus a 10.7% decrease for the eleven-month period ended December 31, 2001. Year-to-date sales increased 0.8% to $324.4 million, versus $321.8 million for the eleven-month period last year.
