Cleaning is critical to maintaining a healthy building. Today's new vacuums are helping with cleaning as well as indoor air quality.

Killing two birds with one stone is often stated but seldom accomplished. In the world of cleaning, good vacuum cleaners can be a dual-purpose threat. High-performance vacuum cleaners have a significant impact on improved indoor air quality (IAQ). At the same time, vacuums that effectively remove and contain soil while keeping the carpet looking good can help carpets last longer.

Many factors affect the quality of indoor air: outside contaminants entering the building; substandard HVAC systems; standing water and humidity; emissions from equipment used in the building; poor housekeeping, etc.

Particulate matter such as dust contains dirt, textile fibers, pollen, hair flakes, residue from cleaning chemicals and household products, decaying organic matter, dust mites, bacteria, fungi, viruses and other contaminants. Many of these contaminants in the air eventually come to rest on floors and other surfaces. Cleaning is a critical ingredient in maintaining a healthy building. Improperly cleaned carpets can hold more than their weight in dirt and contaminants. This can contribute to chronic headaches, sinus congestion and infection, sore throats, asthma and fatigue.
