The situation didn't seem ideal for a game-changing rally: Jacobs had two outs and nobody on, and the Golden Eagles' seventh, eighth, and ninth hitters were due up. But the Eagles wound up scoring 4 runs in that second inning and went on to defeat Woodstock, 8-4, in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action in Algonquin Tuesday.
The Eagles pounded out 16 hits in support of winning pitcher Becky Wilson. Sara Jacobson had 4 hits, Jenna Teson added 3, and Lauren Arceneaux, Lizzie Andrews, and Meghan Hough had 2 apiece for the Eagles (15-2, 6-0).
All of Jacobs' runs came with 2 outs.
"Clutch hitting is a matter of just being confident," said Jacobs coach Jeremy Bauer. "When there are two outs, you have to be a confident hitter, be sure that you understand your role, get runners over, go station to station, and try to get RBIs when they're out there for you."
Jacobson's 2-run double to the left-field wall was the big hit in the second inning. Teson and Julia Escareno also drove in runs. That gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead. The Blue Streaks had gone ahead on Abby Haubold's home run in the first and an unearned run in the second.
