Article Excerpt HATTIESBURG -- The new director of the Area Development Partnership will have some mighty big shoes to fill.
Last month, Gov. Haley Barbour and Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) executive director Leland Speed tapped ADP president Gray Swoope to serve as deputy director and COO for the state's economic development department. He began his new role March 8.
"The new president will have giant shoes to fill," said ADP chair and search Committee leader Paige York-Losee. "However, we are confident we will find a leader to carry the ADP torch and continue to more this community forward."
Since February 1997, when ADP hired Swoope as president, the organization has successfully recruited several companies and helped others expand, resulting in direct new capital investment to the community and the creation of hundreds of jobs. New recruits include Western Container, Dickten & Masch MS Inc., Owens-Illinois Inc., Convergys Corporation, BAE Systems, USA Yeast, Oralbotic Research Inc., and the state's first nanotechnology company, Hybrid Plastics.
