Sue Eisler has been making serious art in St. Louis for nearly 40 years. She has been respected within the art world, but she has never been a popular artist.

This is a town that likes painting, and Eisler is a sculptor of quirky works made out of hardware-store treasure and trash. In a statement prepared for her Laumeier Sculpture Park retrospective, Eisler writes: "I am not a welder, caster or carver. I am a gatherer, scavenger, dumpster diver and scrounge."
