PALMDALE - Navdeep Jaggi already owns a small Palmdale cafe, but it was the launch of his second venture last month that fulfilled a lifelong dream.
Trained in a five-star hotel in his native India, Jaggi came to the United States nearly 25 years ago, working as a chef and in management in restaurants and hotels in California and Arizona.
Last month, he and his wife, Melinda, opened Romi's Fine Dining -- adding a rare, upscale establishment to a city with a culinary landscape better known for low-cost chain eateries.
Although the couple has operated the Bakery Express Cafe for the past nine years, starting a new and far larger and more expensive restaurant from scratch was the culmination of a lifetime spent in the industry.
