Despite the subtitle of James Weiner's latest publication Tree Leaf Talk: Heideggerian Anthropology, this small book does not fit into that industry. Much as it would be desirable to have a thorough interrogation of what Heidegger's many ways of thinking might contribute to anthropology, and perhaps more significantly, what anthropology's understandings of non-Western ways of being might mean for Heidegger's philosophy, Weiner's book does not fulfil this brief.

Instead Weiner's book is a collection of articles, some written to contextualise the Heideggerian terminology used in his earlier accounts of the Foi (especially The Empty Place [Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1991]), but most written as critical responses to...
