Rarely has optimism about a new year in Mississippi State football been so high, so genuine. The starting quarterback, top two rushers, the best two receivers, three leading tacklers and the heart of its kicking game return from a Bulldog team than won eight games in 2007, earning a victorious spot in the Liberty Bowl.
More importantly, the coach is also back. Sylvester Croom, highly popular again now that he's a registered winner, is without doubt the man in charge, a stronger leader whose on-field performance now matches his legendary off-field traits of character, class and resolve.
To hear State faithful talk, an unbeaten season is just around the comer, a BCS championship within reach. Let's hope they're right, but statistics and history...
