PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local ENAEX currently operates 2 explosive plants in northern Chile as well as another in Peru. And, the company is now said to be considering the construction of an additional facility in Chile's Region II. In so doing, the company is presently involved in the completion of a project feasibility study regarding the possible construction of a new ammonia plant at Mejillones.

Construction plans under consideration would involve building a complex with an installed production capacity of 400,000 tons per year of ammonia. Most of the product output would be consumed by the company's new Prillex Ammonium-nitrate plant in Mejillones including some for export. According to Camilio Sandoval, ENAEX CEO, the cost to build the facility is expected to range between $120,000,000 and $130,000,000.

As things currently stand, a final project decision is tentatively scheduled to be made in March 2003. Construction work is expected to last between 24 and 26 months and operational start-up...
