FESTUS -- Mayors have bully pulpits in their communities. But another kind of pulpit beckoned Jack King after he served a 21/2-year term as mayor of Festus.

King, recently ordained, now preaches from a church pulpit on Sunday mornings.

While other ministers, priests and rabbis occasionally have become mayors and council members in communities across the nation, it may be more unusual to join the clergy after a political career.

In King's case, he said the calling came to him in a clear voice.
