Abigail Fitzgerald, age 77, has been admitted to the nedical-surgical unit for the third time for treatment of exacerbation of heart failure. Her b-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) was 420 on admission (high BNP levels > 100 pg/ml). Her last cardiac catheterization was done 4 years ago so she underwent cardiac catheterization to determine her current ejection fraction (EF). Her EF is 33%. After 4 days, she is discharged home.
