George Butler of Reedville Marine Railway in Reedville, Va., recently launched the Iris Marie, a 39' 6" x 12' 4 1/2" x 4' 6" Chesapeake Bay deadrise. She will be used for gillnetting in the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

Hudnall H. Haynie Jr. of Fleeton, Va., had Butler built the wooden gillnetter and named it after his mother (Iris), wife (Marie) and daughter (Iris Marie). "He covered all three of them," Butler says.

All planking on the cross-planked bottom, and stripped-planked sides and decks are made from North Carolina white cedar.
