Coming to theaters near you: what's in store for the upcoming season.

The calendar may say September, but if you're a true dance fan, you are looking ahead. The Bolshoi Ballet doesn't arrive until June, but balletomanes are already buying tickets for La Bayadere at Cal Performances and Le Corsaire at the Kennedy Center and even more will if Natalia Osipova (see cover story, p. 40), the sensation of the moment, travels with the troupe.

Other dance lovers around the country will set aside an evening for France's Ballet Preljocaj when it returns to the West Coast with the choreographer's eccentric version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Then, there are the folks who build their schedules around a visit from Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal (U.S. premiere of Bamboo Blues in December at Brooklyn Academy of Music). Other parties will drop everything to attend the most recent rare Balanchine restoration by the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, the forgotten 1966 Ragtime (Kennedy Center, October). All this advance planning is understandable; hot tickets don't last forever.

So here are some of the other highlights of the American dance scene for the 2008-09 season. American Ballet Theatre will honor Antony Tudor on his centennial with revivals of Jardin aux Lilas, Pillar of Fire, and The Leaves Are Fading during its October-November visit to New York's City Center. Company premieres of Paul Taylor's Company B and Jiri Kylian's Overgrown Path and a revival of Twyla...
