Paul Caputo has taken the first steps to rebuilding the Italian restaurant he opened a decade ago, following a Sept. 5 fire that destroyed the place--just two months after it was featured in the Business Journal.

Caputo is holding an Oct. 2 picnic to raise funds for the 11 employees displaced by the Sept. 5 blaze that destroyed Gina Marie's Trattoria at 546 Gramatan Ave., in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon. Caputo says he could finds jobs for only four of his Gina Marie's employees at his other Westchester restaurant, Bela Vita Trattoria in the Mohegan Lake section of Yorktown, leaving the rest out of jobs altogether.
