The planned Springfield leg of Lane Transit District's high-speed bus service is running 10 percent over budget, but an official said the cost could drop before the project is finalized in the coming months.

The most recent estimate for the extension of EmX to Gateway from the Springfield city center is $41.2 million, up more than $4 million from LTD's estimate two years ago.

The project is on track for completion in 2010, but the district might delay other big-ticket purchases to cover any significant cost overruns, spokesman Andy Vobora said.
