The disturbing headlines have been more frequent in the last few years: States are releasing innocent people from prison after they have served decades behind bars and even years on death row. More sophisticated DNA testing methods are typically the mechanism by which these prisoners are freed.

The Innocence Commission: Preventing Wrongful Convictions and Restoring the Criminal Justice System, by Jon Gould, a professor of law and administration of justice at George Mason University, is a welcome addition to the literature on the incarceration of people who never committed the crime for which they were charged.
