An Open Letter in Response to the Whirlpool Decision to Close the Oxford Plant, July 10, 2008:

As leaders of the Oxford-Lafayette County area, we wish to express our disappointment over the Whirlpool Corporation's decision to close its Oxford plant. Our hearts go out to the 750 employees, many of whom reside in Lafayette County as well as many neighboring counties. The loss of these jobs obviously will affect these hard working employees and their families. Further, we expect the loss of an estimated $20million annual payroll to have a correspondingly negative effect upon our local economy.
