Police accuse man of lying about accident

A Springfield man is accused of lying to police about his involvement in a hit-and-run crash July 21 that sent a 15-year-old bicyclist to the hospital with a broken arm.

When police officers arrived at the scene of the 6:43 p.m. accident, Donald Ray Willis, 42, informed them that he was behind the wheel of a 1997 Chevy Lumina that ran into bicyclist Jaime L. Bogart in a crosswalk at the intersection of West Centennial Boulevard and Prescott Lane, police Sgt. Brent Carpenter said.

But witnesses told investigators a different story.

They said Willis was merely a passenger in the car, and that another man - who police identified as Robert Wallace Hash Jr., 43, of Springfield - was the driver, Carpenter...
