DIVA opens six new exhibits for August

Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts opens a range of new exhibits for August.

DIVA, at 110 W. Broadway, will hold a reception for all the shows from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The exhibitions:

Michael Boonstra's "In Light Of" includes two giant camera obscura structures. Hundreds of pinholes drilled in these structures project the scenery outside into the gallery. Boonstra will also display translucent backlit drawings.

Mixed media artist Alison McNair and photographer Denise Wendt have collaborated on "The Hungry Soul: Saints & Servers." McNair's mixed media art was inspired by a mural project that she led at The Dining Room, FOOD for Lane County's downtown community meal site. Wendt's photographs are of people served by the food bank and those who serve them.

"Thrown Before" includes black-and-white photos by Jonathan Smith of commonplace objects such as old weathered bones.
