It's just one of many questions Tim Mueller gets from children this time of year. 'Because I guess some ice-cream men don't 'he says.

The ones who are left, anyway.

Once a common summertime sight and sound along neighborhood streets across America, ice cream trucks have mostly gone the way of the horse and buggy.

So maybe it's appropriate that Mueller (pronounced 'Meller') plays the 'Teddy Bears' Picnic' song he even has a Jerry Garcia version over and over as he drives the streets of Eugene and Springfield between May and September. It was written in 1907.

A retired postal carrier, Mueller operates Summer Santa's Frozen Fun as a part-time business. He's on the street Monday through Friday from about 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., maybe later depending on how business...
