Susan and Richard have been married for 35 years with three young-adult children. It is quickly approaching 20 years since Richard received the diagnosis of Hepatitis C. He can vividly remember the pain and discomfort of the interferon treatment he endured upon diagnosis at age 37. Richard and Susan both hold on to the notion that, "20 years after diagnosis, the liver gives out," a fear they had acquired somewhere along the way in the course his treatment when they had asked one of his physicians for an anticipated prognosis.
While in large part he has enjoyed good health over the past 19 years, Richard has been experiencing some difficulties related to his diagnosis in the past 6 months. A recent liver biopsy indicates it's time for more aggressive treatment.
