Two of the most prevalent concerns of service center executives today are how to improve business partner relationships and how to do more business with fewer human resources. While neither of these questions has any one simple answer, much can be accomplished using the longstanding technology of Electronic Data Interchange.

In the past, EDI was often reserved as a tool for large enterprises to exchange business information with their partners. Smaller businesses were sometimes forced into an investment in EDI to satisfy their larger clients and never fully realized its benefits.

Today, companies have other options to "get in the game" when it comes to EDI, many of which are reasonably priced and can be scaled to meet customers' needs as their EDI usage grows. One alternative to purchasing EDI translation software is to partner with an outside firm that offers outsourced EDI services. These vendors can often provide basic EDI capabilities and much more for reasonable costs.
