They had always been linked, as commitments to the Ducks, as players of the year in the state of Washington, even as early enrollees at Oregon. Now, both Johnny DuRocher and Jordan Carey are gone from the program, less than a week apart if for different reasons.

DuRocher, a redshirt freshman quarterback, decided last week to leave the Ducks and transfer to a community college before he searches for a new team. Then on Tuesday came the announcement that receiver-turned-defender Carey had been dismissed from the team for `repeated violation of team rules.'

`It's the same thing we deal with every year,' UO coach Mike Bellotti said. `Life goes on.'

These were two of the highlighted players of Oregon's recruiting class in the winter of 2003, both from the Puget Sound area in the Huskies' backyard. DuRocher was chosen by Gatorade...
