Rupp opts out of 5,000 final
The University of Oregon's Galen Rupp will not run in the 5,000-meter final tonight at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, choosing instead to focus on Friday's 10,000 meters.
Rupp entered the 5,000 semifinal three days ago planning to run it as a warm-up for the 10,000, but said he might consider entering the final after he won his heat in 13 minutes, 59.14 seconds. However, his coach, Alberto Salazar, said Sunday that Rupp will not run the 5,000.
