George Horton became Oregon's baseball coach on the first day of September. His contract is yet to be finalized.

Amid much fanfare, a new contract for Ernie Kent that guarantees the basketball coach $1 million in compensation was announced April 11, 2007. Though almost 15 months have passed, apparently the last i hasn't been dotted on that deal either.

Is there cause for concern? No, they say, a feeling also held by UO football coach Mike Bellotti, who himself now works under terms of a deal that is still to be put into written form, though he agreed to it last September and it was announced in December, including the provision that he could earn up to $2 million annually.

"I know that a couple of times, it's been two, three years before I've actually seen a written contract for something we've agreed to," said Bellotti, the head coach at Oregon since 1995.

So what is it that has caused the three highest-paid Oregon coaches to be working under provisions of contracts that aren't completed?

"It's quite a process," UO director of athletics Pat Kilkenny said. "These are highly compensated individuals, and their deals tend to take longer. ... There's just more attention to detail."?Kilkenny and the coaches...
