...of a 51 -year-old Caucasian woman treated for metastatic renal cell carcinoma who presented with well-defined tender erythematous callosities of the fingers and feet, following a dosage increase of sorafenib. A dose reduction decreased the symptoms, but the hyperkeratosis persisted. This adverse response may represent a novel event differing from traditional hand-foot syndrome.

Introduction

As new epidermal-growth-factor receptor inhibitors are utilized in cancer therapy, undesired side effects such as papu-lopustuiar eruptions are concurrently being recognized. Sorafenib, a relatively new oral multikinase inhibitor, has a unique broad target selectivity against neoplastic cells by blocking multiple kinase signaling pathways, which is believed to have a differentiating benefit over direct single kinase receptor inhibition.
