PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local ORIENTAL UNION CHEMICAL CORP. (OUCC), a subsidiary of FAR EASTERN TEXTILE, is currently gearing-up to build a new ethylene oxide-ethylene glycol (EO-EG) plant in Taiwan. Construction plans under consideration call for building a complex with an installed production capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year (mt/y) of EG and 100,000 mt/y of purified EO.

In addition, OUCC is also planning to investment in downstream products using additional purified EO as feedstock. The company is also said to be establishing a new business unit to develop ethoxylates and other high value-added product lines.

The cost to complete the EO-EG facility, by the end of the year 2006, has been estimated at $260,000,000.

OUCC employs a total staff of about 170 engaged in the manufacture of chemicals including nitrogen, ethylene glycol, ethylene oxide and di-ethylene glycol.
