As Moore and Rosenthal argue, "There has been an explosion of information and research on adolescent sexuality in the past decade" (p. 1). In an attempt to synthesize these findings, the authors wrote Sexuality in Adolescence as an update of a first edition published more than a decade ago (Moore & Rosenthal, 1993). They also include data on significant cultural changes since the early 1990s, such as greater acceptance of adolescent sexual diversity and the widespread use of technologies that facilitate globalization of youth culture.
Sexuality in Adolescence has as its primary focus the experience of adolescent sexuality in Western societies, with a particular emphasis on research conducted in Australia (where the authors reside and work), the United Kingdom, the United States, and, to a lesser extent, New Zealand, Canada, and European countries.
