The Ninth Circuit has ruled that two children who were conceived in vitro are entitled to their father's Social Security benefits--even though he died almost a year before they were born.

the court limited its ruling to Arizona law, but the decision will probably have wide impact: "Administrative law judges from other states have been following this case with great interest," said Hagit Ulel of New York City, who represented the plaintiffs. (Gillett-Netting v. Barnhart, 371 F.3d 593 (9th Cir. 2004).)
