For distributors, going Green can't just mean offering products that have a seal or certification. A Green cleaning program is a complete approach to cleaning that examines the entire cleaning process. In order to provide this, distributors need to be educated on Green products and their role in a Green cleaning program.

In addition, facility managers are asking for and in some cases demanding advice on Green products as well as education on how to use them. Smart distributors are educating themselves and their clients on both Green methods and products. Industry experts, associations and manufacturers can be a place for distributors to turn to for this information.

Distributors selling to schools in Illinois no longer have a choice when it comes to Green. The Green Cleaning Schools Act took effect May 9. The act requires all Illinois Schools (K-12) to purchase and use only environmentally sensitive cleaning supplies.

The act directed the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council to work with state agencies and interested stakeholders to develop guidelines and specifications for Green cleaning in schools.
