Erica O'Connell knew she wanted to go to design school long before it became fashionable on MTV's "The Hills."

She admits, however, that she does watch the show.

"It's cool to see my school on there," O'Connell said of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, where she will be a student in the fall. "It's exciting."

The soon-to-be graduate of Springfield High School says she developed her interest in fashion design when she was 11, sitting with her grandmother watching the Academy Awards show.

Unlike a lot of young girls, O'Connell was not interested in being one of the actresses.

Instead, she wanted to work behind the scenes designing the beautiful dresses that her favorite celebrities wore.

By eighth grade she had mapped out a fictional graduation from the fashion institute.

Now, she's just months away from moving to Hollywood, where she'll execute the plans...
