The first Jeff Musgrove heard of the city of Eugene's latest drive to lure McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center to build a new hospital downtown was when he opened up a copy of The Register-Guard eight days ago.

He was somewhat surprised to learn that the four-block site pitched by the city includes property his family has owned and operated as a funeral home for more than 50 years.

But Musgrove hasn't heard a peep yet directly from Eugene or McKenzie-Willamette officials on the potential acquisition of the family's nearly 1-acre parcel at 11th Avenue and Olive Street.

"It would be nice for someone to ask my opinion," Musgrove said. "But we have not had any contact from the city or the hospital at all."

"This business has been here a long time, and this is a great location for what we do," he added.
