CASE FACTS: Eight patients received fertility treatments from two physicians in the late 1980s at a clinic located in Garden Grove. In 1995, it was reported by several news sources that the physicians had been "stealing" human genetic material from patients receiving fertility treatments. The patients alleged in their complaints that they were unaware that they were potential victims until after 2000, and filed suit within one year of discovering their claims. The facts revealed that the patients received medical treatments at the Center for Reproductive Health (Fertility Clinic) located in the Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center (Medical Center). The Fertility Clinic was owned and operated by the Regents of the University of California (Regents), affiliated with the University of California Medical Center (UCI).
