Article Excerpt This issue, Volume 45:1, represents a new beginning. It is the first issue to appear under the title Canadian Review of Sociology reflecting the decision nearly 2 years ago by the members of the former Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association to change its name to the Canadian Sociological Association. In doing so, they recognized that most anthropologists in Canada were now members of their own association with its own journal and that it was appropriate for sociologists in Canada similarly to reflect their own unique professional identity. As this is the official journal of the CSA, the name change is a reflection of that new organizational identity.
Nonetheless, given this new beginning, it is relevant to articulate what is the mission of this journal. We are a general journal of Sociology with the aim of making a significant contribution to sociological ideas and methodology and to the sociological analysis and understanding of social life in Canada and elsewhere. To that goal, we welcome works in either English or French from sociologists and other social scientists located throughout the world, whose work incorporates sociological analysis. We are not bound by any conceptual or methodological orientation. Nor are we limited in the topic under investigation. Likewise, we are equally interested in studies of action, structure, institutions, and culture. Given the long tradition of interdisciplinary analysis in Canadian social science, we welcome works that incorporate sociological perspectives with perspectives and topics of particular concern to other social sciences, the humanities, health sciences, and the physical, ecological, and applied sciences.
It is also relevant to state that we are not a journal of Canadian sociology, either in the sense that we limit our pages to works dealing with Canada, or to sociologists who are Canadian. While we seek to be the primary outlet for the best work of Canadian sociologists as...
