DRY AND PARCHED would easily describe the Ol Moran terrain. This region of Kenya's Laikipia District is characterized by long hot spells which only permit little agriculture and a lot of nomadic livelihood.

Incessant conflicts between the farming and the nomadic communities over resources such as water and pasture have left scores dead over the years. Scarcity of water has been a major issue with local authorities and nongovernmental organizations drilling boreholes to meet their needs.

But it is a local church parish-0l Moran Catholic Parish--that has demonstrated the value of scarce energy and water resources when well harnessed.
