In order to encourage the use of these appliances in the college setting, the Energy Star Web site has set up a series of guidelines to create an Energy Star showcase dorm room. Using Energy Star appliances, encouraging energy efficiency, and creating a buzz around campus about the model dorm room are all part of this campaign. The University of Wisconsin system, for example, now requires that all new purchased appliances must be Energy Star compliant.
