...and video ensure their memories are watchable, as well as being stored in a reliable, long-lasting way. Transfer and conversion services in the imaging industry are encouraging customers to think about the importance of preserving their home movies.

The process

The transferring process consists of moving images stored on slides, 8mm film, 16mm film, and VHS videos to DVD--a more current medium.

Several photo retailers, like Northfield, N.J.-based Corrall Photographic, a franchise of MotoPhoto Corp., offer transfer services.

"There is a huge demand for transfer services," says Denny Coleman of MotoPhoto. "People who have stored their legacies on film, slides, and videos want to make sure those memories are preserved in a secure way."

MotoPhoto transfers video to the MOTODVD, an archival gold DVD that lasts up to 100 years, 10 times longer than a standard DVD, says Coleman. The company also offers MOTOShow--a DVD slide show with optional music...
