The great Jerome Robbins, who had sent the three sailors of On the Town bounding off the floor with pyrotechnic ease, who had joined Mary Martin on a wire to choreograph her flights as Peter Pan, who had distilled the war between the Jets and the Sharks into hot blasts of pure dance energy in West Side Story, and who would soon turn life in Fiddler on the Roof's Anatevka into an eternally snaking chain dance, that Jerome Robbins, contented himself in Gypsy with only one real dance number and multiple variants of some of the hoariest dance cliches...
