Many can play `gotcha' game

After reading Tony McElfresh's attempt to "gotcha" Barack Obama with his well-known admission of drug use (letters, April 23), I was going to respond by mentioning George W. Bush's history of substance abuse well into his 30s.

However, I then remembered that those were "youthful indiscretions" that no longer mattered after he was "born again." I'm sure Republicans appreciate how eager Jesus Christ is to just forgive stuff like that.

Fair being fair, I'm also sure that McElfresh won't mind John McCain being asked a question like, "Senator, your first wife remained loyal to you as you spent over five years in a POW camp and you repaid that by leaving her for a beer heiress 18 years younger than you. Do you ever ponder that as you sit down to breakfast with your family?"

Bummer, indeed.
